Hello, my name is Karen and I run the crafty carers group together with the carers group coordinator Angie. This group meets on the third Friday of each month and tries a different type of craft each time. Our aim is to help carers learn a new craft and get some “me” time too.

Many of the carers who come along tell us they are able switch off from their caring role for a couple of hours as well as try something new. We like to make sure that all levels of ability are catered for and we encourage people do things at their own pace.

Over the last year we have tried our hand at glass painting, felting, jewellery making, folk art, decorating gift boxes, making framed pictures using scrabble letters, button canvas pictures, Hama bead pictures and many types of Christmas crafts. So as you can see we try many different things and you always go home with something at the end of the session.

We have a full program planned for 2019 which starts on Friday 18th January with a ‘heart to heart’ session. We will be making a selection of heart themed things to celebrate Valentine’s Day in February, although these items can be given throughout the year and to anyone you love. Below is an example of the type of thing we will be making.

The full details of the program for the next year is as follows:
18 Jan     – Heart to heart
15 Feb     – Felting with Joy
15 Mar     – Mixed crafts for Easter
19 Apr     – No group – Carers Leeds closed for Good Friday
17 May     – Diamond art
21 Jun     – Glass stone art
19 Jul      – Jewellery making with Karen and co
16 Aug     – Crochet for beginners
20 Sep     – Mandala stone painting
18 Oct     – Halloween trick or treat
15 Nov     – Christmas crafts

We believe that the group helps you develop new skills and it nice to see people enjoy time with other carers who also like to make crafts. We have a lot of fun too and laughter can often be heard coming from our room. Light refreshments are available at each session.

So if you fancy learning something new then please come along and join us at crafty carers where a warm welcome will be guaranteed.

I look forward to meeting you in 2019
Karen
