In April 2019, Carers Leeds started a new two year project called Carers Good Health. This followed research by Carers UK that told us that 72% of carers in the UK had suffered mental ill health and 61% had suffered physical ill health as a result of caring.
Experienced carer support worker Jo Foster is taking the lead on the work, which will focus on carers health and wellbeing. The project will have an emphasis on healthy eating, physical activity and mental wellbeing, including self care and social isolation. Jo will provide various events and activities for carers including information workshops, taster sessions, fitness classes and a 4 week course.
To help us ensure that this project that meets the needs of carers in Leeds, we want your views! Please join us at one of two sessions to give us your thoughts on health and wellbeing. We’d like to find out how caring affects your wellbeing, what you feel would help you, what barriers you face to looking after your wellbeing etc.
You don’t have to attend the full session, just pop in between the times listed and share your views over a nice lunch, which will be provided. The dates are Tuesday 14th May 10am-2pm or Wednesday 22nd May 11am-3pm, both at Carers Leeds.
Jo will also be attending some carer support groups to obtain your views. If you would like her to attend your local support group, or if you would like a one to one meeting with Jo, please get in touch. For further information on the project you can contact Jo Foster on 0113 2468338 or firstname.lastname@example.org
The Carers Good Health project is being run in collaboration with Carers Trust, and is funded by Bupa UK Foundation.
