Our latest updates are here, bringing together exciting ways to get involved, opportunities to support unpaid carers, and news from across Leeds and beyond.

As we continue celebrating our 30th anniversary, there are plenty of ways to join in, give back, and help us recognise the incredible contribution of unpaid carers.

We’re celebrating our 30th anniversary with our 3,000 miles in 30 days challenge, as staff, volunteers and trustees walk, run, swim and cycle to raise funds for unpaid carers. You can support the challenge by donating.

A big thank you to our “purple army”, who marked the milestone by collecting 30 bags of litter in 30 days, supporting Litter Free Leeds.

Welcome to your April update from Carers Leeds.

It’s hard to believe how quickly 2026 is flying by — and this year is a special one for us, as we celebrate 30 years of supporting unpaid carers across Leeds.

We’d like to start with a big thank you to everyone who joined us at our recent “Woof and Walk” event at Roundhay Park. It was a fantastic day, bringing together carers, supporters, and their four-legged friends.

And there’s plenty more to come. This June, Carers Leeds staff, volunteers and trustees will be taking on an ambitious challenge — walking, running, swimming and cycling a combined 3,000 miles in just 30 days. It’s all to raise awareness and vital funds for unpaid carers. If you can, please support us with a donation or simply help spread the word.

We’re also planning a special carers celebration this September as part of our anniversary year. To help make it really memorable, we’re looking for raffle prizes — anything from vouchers to gifts or experiences. Every contribution, big or small, will help us create something special.

Looking ahead, Carers Week runs from the 8th to the 14th of June. We’ll be hosting information sessions, special events, and working closely with health and care professionals across Leeds to help more people recognise carers and connect them with the support they need.

You can also help shape future services by taking part in current research. One study, Waiting Well in Social Care, is exploring people’s experiences of delays when accessing adult social care — including waiting for assessments, care plans, and support to begin. It’s a chance for carers to share what that experience is really like and help improve services for others.

There are also opportunities to give feedback on learning disability services and take part in research focused on supporting people with serious mental health needs — all helping to make sure carers’ voices are heard.

And coming up, there’s a Carers Information Session on Learning Disability and Neurodivergence. This session is for anyone supporting an adult with a learning disability or who is neurodivergent. It will cover practical topics like respite care, accommodation and day services, how needs are assessed, and how financial contributions and charging work — helping you better understand your options and plan ahead.

Don’t forget, our next online learning session is on May the 13th, focusing on Lasting Power of Attorney and alternative ways to plan ahead.

We also continue to run a range of groups, including our online support group for young dementia carers.
