Hi, my name is Karen and I am a volunteer here at Carers Leeds and I run the LGBTQ Carers Support Group. I thought it would be a good idea to start this group to help provide a relaxed, safe environment for carers who indentify as LGBTQ. The idea of the group is to provide peer support to any carer who is Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender or Questioning. I hope that as the group grows we will decide on things we would like to do etc. I would like to be able to create a community for LGBTQ carers at Carers Leeds where they can come for a cuppa and a chat, find advice and support and make new friends.

We had our first meeting on what seemed like the hottest day of the year! We managed to keep cool enough to have a nice chat and get to know one another a little bit. Hopefully it will be a bit cooler for our next meeting and perhaps we might get one or two more carers joining us. We need someone to help us eat all the biscuits!

The next meeting is on Monday 17th July between 1pm-3pm at the Carers Leeds office on The Headrow, so come along and join us for a cuppa and a chat.

Leeds Pride August 2017

As you may have already seen, we will also be joining in the Leeds Pride celebrations on Sunday 6th August. Join us for the parade starting in Millennium Square at 2pm and parade behind the Carers Leeds LGBTQ banner to Lower Briggate.

We will also have an information stall on Lower Briggate and we will be running a “name the bear” contest. The lucky winner gets to not only give our Bear a name but to give him a new home too.
