Garforth carers support group
August 13 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
An event every month that begins at 1:30pm on day Second of the month, repeating indefinitely
This free monthly support group is based in Garforth, Leeds and is open to all unpaid carers.
The aim of this group is to support carers in their role through mutual support, information sharing and activities that help reduce stress and isolation and assist the carer’s general wellbeing.
NET (The Neighbourhood Elders Team) are working in partnership with Carers Leeds and the group meets at the NET Office.
All carers are welcome to just drop in or if you would like further information please telephone the NET Office 0113 2874784.
Carers support at NET can provide in-depth one-to-one support to individual carers where appropriate.
This includes emotional support, information, advice and advocacy. We can work with you to explore the options that are available to you as a carer. We can help with form filling, applying for specific benefits such as Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance and Carers Allowance and making applications to Charitable Trusts. We can support carers as appropriate at formal meetings.
We offer one-to-one appointments at our offices, through drop-ins and, in some cases, by a home visit.
“You were such a great help when my wife was taken into hospital. I don’t think I would have got through it without the help and support given by NET and Carers’ Leeds .” (Eric)
“Thank you for all your help preparing for my Carers Assessment. It really helped me to look at my own needs and not feel guilty about asking for help.” ( Rosie)
The group offers a safe, confidential space to meet with other carers and are facilitated by trained staff and Volunteers. A variety of different activities happen in groups including speakers, therapies and craft activities. An important aspect of the group is sharing with others how you feel, about being a carer.
This group is one of many carers groups within the city. Group support is a good way to share experiences and get emotional support from other people in the same or similar situation.
The groups are welcoming and friendly, give carers a break from caring and gives you the opportunity to get advice, information and support tailored towards your caring role.
Some groups enjoy activities, well-being sessions and have speakers who may be of particular interest to the group.
