DESCRIPTION:This free online session is part of our Carers Learning Sessions\, a series of monthly sessions aimed at empowering carers and providing practical advice on issues that may affect their caring role. \nHaving a will in place is important for everyone\, regardless of age or health. SUMMARY:Death Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Join us at our Death Café\nAs part of National Grief Awareness Week 2026\, we are inviting unpaid carers to join us for a Death Café at Wheatfields Hospice. \nDate: Thursday 3 December 2026\nTime: 2pm–4pm\nVenue: Wheatfields Hospice\, Grove Road\, Headingley\, LS6 2AE \nTo book your place\, call our Support Line on 0113 380 4300. \nWhat is a Death Café?\nA Death Café is an opportunity to come together over tea and cake and have an open and honest conversation about death and dying. \nThe aim is to increase awareness of death and encourage people to make the most of their lives. There is no set agenda\, objective or theme – the conversation is shaped by those taking part. \nDeath Cafés are discussion groups rather than grief support or counselling sessions. They provide a welcoming space for anyone who is curious or open to talking about death and dying in a respectful and life-affirming way. \nCake and refreshments will be provided. \nWhat can I expect?\nDeath Cafés are always offered: \n\nOn a not-for-profit basis\nIn an accessible\, respectful and confidential space\nWithout any intention of leading people towards a particular conclusion\, product or course of action\nAlongside refreshments\, food and\, importantly\, cake!\n\nYou don’t need to have any previous experience of a Death Café or prepare anything in advance. The discussion is informal and led by the people attending. \nAbout the Death Café movement\nThe Death Café movement was founded by Jon Underwood\, who held the first Death Café at his home in 2011. \nSince then\, the movement has grown across the UK and around the world\, helping to challenge taboos and encourage more open conversations about death and dying. \nJon died suddenly in 2017\, but his legacy continues through Death Cafés around the world and their focus on talking openly about death while valuing living well in the present. \nBook your place\nThis Death Café will be facilitated by Emma Pickering and Rebecca McClay from Carers Leeds. \nTo reserve your place\, please visit Ticket Tailor.
