On the 24th May, a group from our Young Adult Carers project took the train over to York to meet up with some of the Young Adult Carers from the York Carers Centre.
The afternoon’s activity was a visit to ‘The Gr8 Escape’, a ‘Live Escape Room Experience’, situated on Colliergate, in the beautiful surroundings of York City Centre. The premise of such an activity is that you are ‘locked’ in a room and you have one hour to solve clues and puzzles to either find your way out of the room, or to solve a mystery.
The Young Adult Carers from York and Leeds came together, and 3 teams were formed to tackle the three puzzle rooms that The Gr8 Escape has to offer. It was fantastic to see everyone interacting with each other, and ultimately, working as teams to try to solve the puzzles.
Two of the teams (including the one I was with!) came very close to solving their rooms within the hour time limit. I think we were only a couple of clues away from the end when the clock sadly beat us!
The third team, with members from York Carers Centre and Carers Leeds managed to beat their room, solving all the clues and escaping the room in a time of 59 minutes and 8 seconds! (I think this placed them 3rd or 4th on the all-time leader board!)
After flexing their grey-matter at the Gr8 Escape, all of the Young Adult Carers visited one of York’s many fantastic pubs for a well-deserved evening meal, before our group from Leeds headed back home on the train.
It was a fantastic evening out and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
