We’re proud to say that some of the Carers Leeds team are Dementia Friends Champions. But what is a Dementia Friends Champion? And what does this means for Carers Leeds and the wider community?

A Dementia Friends Champion is a volunteer who encourages others to make a positive difference to people living with dementia in their community. They do this by running free Dementia Friends sessions which include information about the personal impact of dementia, and what individuals and communities can do to help. For Carers Leeds this means we can cascade information to organisations that we work in partnership with, such as GP Practices as well as working to ensure all staff and volunteers have attended a session.

So far, we have facilitated over 150 people to become a Dementia Friend in Leeds and been able to raise awareness about carers at the same time.
