The Carers Health and Wellbeing project started in April this year, funded by Leeds CCG Health Grants via Leeds Community Foundation.  The project is supporting carers around health issues in the North and South & East of Leeds.  Research and evidence from delivering carers’ services all point to carers neglecting their own health as a result of the demands of caring, so we are delighted we can offer additional health support to carers.

Many carers have taken up the one-to-one support on offer and our three Carers Health Workers have been busy helping individuals to look at their lifestyle and make changes that will help them improve their health and wellbeing.  This can include advice and guidance on food and exercise, help with cutting down smoking and alcohol and help in managing stress, anxiety and low mood.  So far, we are getting excellent results as carers begin to take responsibility for their own health and start to feel much better about themselves.

We are now organising healthy living group activities and training courses which will run across the North and S&E areas.

Our series of Healthy Living Workshops for carers starts on Tuesday 4th October, 11 – 1 pm at Carers Leeds.  This is an 8-week programme of activities looking at ways of improving carers’ health and wellbeing, including basics for healthy eating, portion size, exercise, mindfulness and managing stress and anxiety.

There are still places on this course, so please phone us on the Advice Line if you are interested in attending:  0113 380 4300.
